In a shocking incident, a man was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on suspicion of cow smuggling on Friday night, the police said on Saturday.

Reports say the villagers of Ramgarh attacked two men who were transporting cows from their native Kolganv village in Haryana to Ramgarh. One of them identified as Akbar Khan died on the spot.

The villagers severely thrashed Khan and his accomplice, a police officer said, adding Khan’s body has been sent for autopsy.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje took to twitter to condemn the alleged incident of lynching in Alwar and said that strictest possible action will be taken against the perpetrators.

The incident comes just three days after the Supreme Court condemned the growing incidents of mob lynching across the country and asked Parliament to consider enacting a new law to effectively deal with such incidents.

“Horrendous acts of mobocracy” cannot be allowed to become a new norm, it had said.

Asserting that no citizen can take law into their own hands, the apex court said, “It is duty of State to ensure rule of law is preserved.”

A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra also passed a slew of directions to provide “preventive, remedial and punitive measures” to deal with offences like mob violence and cow vigilantism.

Later in November, cow vigilantes shot dead Umar, aged around 35, and injured another man in Govindgarh in Alwar district on suspicion of cow smuggling.
