Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) Dr S Somnath said the Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformative potential in the fields of rocket development, space manufacturing, human space flights, space communications and the overall future of space experiments.
Dr Somnath was addressing an international conference on emerging trends in AI held at Bangalore organised by the Xavier Institute of Management (XIME) with the University of Adelaide on February 22.
He recounted how AI was helpful in the success of the recently launched Chandrayan 3 mission and highlighted and explained how India, as a part of the four major countries pioneering the experiments in space and moon, will be able to claim its rightful share in the moon’s land surface whenever such a need arises.
Prof TG Sitharam, chairman of the AICTE, in his address, emphasised that AI would have an important role in shaping the future of industries and education.
He said the government had set up a high-powered task force to study the impact of AI on the industry and education and to recommend a regulatory mechanism in view of preventing its misuse.
Prof J Philip, who is the founder of XIME Bangalore, also highlighted the importance of AI in today’s context, adding that irrespective of the mind boggling growth of AI, the human brain would continue to be superior.
Prof Noel Lindsay, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Adelaide, told the conference that the world was influenced by the growth of AI and has predicted that going forward, a majority of startups will be in the AI space which opens up a great opportunity for the budding entrepreneurs.
