The difference between the Centre and the Ladakhis has refused to die down as the agitating people have opposed the high powered committee set up by Union Home Ministy, alleging that their 4 point charter of demands are missing in the agenda.
The Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) that have been spearheading the agitation, have announced their decision to boycott the committee. Almost all political parties and social and religious organisations, except BJP, are participating in the agitation.
They have decided to intensify their agitation by organising a protest in Jammu on 15 January, followed by a dharna at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in the third week of February.
The agitating bodies, however, resolved to participate in the committee meetings to be chaired by Union Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai only after the 4 point charter of demands are included in the agenda.
Both the agitating bodies have been demanding seperate statehood for Ladakh, Constitutional safeguards under the Sixth Schedule for the tribal people of Ladakh.
They further have been demnding the formation of a public service commission and reservation of jobs for the Ladakhi youth and creation of 2 parliamentary constituencies for Leh and Kargil.
They have alleged that the committee set up by the Centre should consist of those, whose names were recommended in 2021.
