Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday declared he will ensure Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s arrest after the Lok Sabha elections.
The Assam CM said that a special investigation team (SIT) will be formed to investigate the case registered against the Gandhi scion over Tuesday’s violence during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Guwahati.
“The SIT shall investigate the case and we shall arrest him after the Lok Sabha elections are over. If we take action now, they will call it as political move,” he said. “We have proof. Yesterday a major incident could have happened in Guwahati, the way he provoked people,” Sarma said.
The chief minister further accused Rahul Gandhi of carrying out the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam with an intention to disturb the peace in the state.
“The whole intention of the Yatra was to disturb Assam and the jeopardose the peace in Assam. We defeated this attention seeker of his motive and now let him do whatever he wants to do beyond Dhuburi,” CM Sarma said in a statement.
On Tuesday, an FIR was registered against Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, Kanhaiya Kumar and other Congress leaders for the “violence” during Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in near Guwahati.
Reacting to the registration of police case against him, Rahul Gandhi said that he is not scared of anyone and reiterated his “most corrupt chief minister” jibe.
“The most corrupt Chief Minister of the country is in Assam. They work to spread hatred 24 hours a day. Chief Minister of Assam says- People of backward and Dalit class are born to serve the people of general class. They make one religion fight against another and then by diverting the public’s attention they snatch away all your money from you,” he said while addressing a gathering.
The Congress leader further accused the Assam CM of trying to stop his yatra.
“They are stopping our journey, filing cases against us, but they did not understand that we are not afraid of anyone,” he added.
