Opposition MPs, on Thursday, staged a protest demonstration outside Parliament by forming a human chain. They renewed their demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the Adani issue.

Displaying placards, the protesting MPs from different political parties shouted slogans against the Modi Government. The human chain was formed in the wake of an impasse between the BJP and the Opposition that continued on the fourth consecutive day of the second phase of Budget Session with charges being traded over allegations against the Adani group and Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks in London.

Meanwhile, Congress workers also held a protest in the National Capital over the Adani row and demanded a JPC probe into it.

Earlier in the day, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs entered the Well of the Rajya Sabha with a black cloths tied around their mouths as they registered a unique protest which led to the adjournment in both Houses. A similar protest was seen in Lok Sabha.

The Opposition has been raising the Adani issue and demanding a JPC probe into the Hindenburg-Adani report.

The TMC MPs wore black cloths around their faces and entered the Well in both the Houses of Parliament even before the presiding officers arrived. They kept pointing towards the Treasury benches shouting “BJP Ministers and MPs are not allowing the opposition to speak. Not allowing the opposition to express themselves”.

Earlier this morning, leaders from like-minded Opposition parties met at the Parliament chamber of Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. The leaders from the DMK, NCP, SP, RJD, BRS, CPM,CPI, SS, JDU, JMM, MDMK, AAP, VCK and IUML attended the meeting this morning.

On the ruckus caused by the Opposition MPs in Parliament, Kharge told mediapersons, “It’s their conspiracy to not let the Parliament run and ignore our demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe in the Adani issue.”

“They don’t want to discuss issues of unemployment and inflation. Earlier on numerous occasions, Modi Ji spoke against India abroad. There is no question of apologizing,” he added.

On Wednesday, major Opposition parties, barring the TMC and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), undertook a protest march from the Parliament House to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office over the raging Adani issue but were stopped at the Vijay Chowk.

The marchers were on their way to the ED office to hand over a complaint to the probe agency when they were stopped midway.
