AAP leader Somnath Bharti on Wednesday targeted the BJP for fielding former Union minister Sushma Swaraj’s daughter Bansuri Swaraj from the New Delhi constituency, claiming that she had helped Lalit Modi escape from the country.
Addressing a press conference here, Bharti said all efforts made by the party to prove itself as a true “patriot” have failed.
“(Bansuri Swaraj) helped former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi to flee the country and also defended him in court. Bansuri had helped in renewing Lalit’s passport before the double bench verdict came, thus helping him leave the country,” he said.
Bharti, the AAP’s candidate from the New Delhi constituency, further claimed that Lalit Modi himself had thanked Bansuri, and added that giving a ticket to a person who helped a man who betrayed the country is highly worrisome.
“Bansuri was Modi’s lawyer from 2012- 2014, and helped him flee from the country. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is silent on these questions, including why did the saffron party not give the ticket to their leader Meenakshi Lekhi who was the MP on the seat for 2 years,” the AAP leader added.
