On World Laughter Day, Congress took a jibe at Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb for his penchant to be in controversy with the slogan — ‘A Biplabism a day, keeps real issues away’.

Congress in its official Twitter handle uploaded a 150-seconds video with a disclaimer “The views, information or opinion expressed are solely of Biplab Kumar Deb and the BJP and do not even remotely represent reality”, mocking Tripura CM as the “next big BJP wave” after Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Biplab Deb has made headlines for his controversial remarks multiple times, since he took over as the Chief Minister of Tripura .

In his latest remark, the Tripura CM threatened to chop off nails of people if they interfered with his government.

He also claimed that Internet and satellite communication existed in the days of Mahabharata and went on to making a remark on 1997 Miss World Diana Hayden’s skin colour, thus becoming the face of outlandish statements.

Biplab Deb has also been accused of trivialising the issue of unemployment, on the back of which he contested elections in the state. At an event organised by a veterinary body, Biplab Deb said that the youth in Tripura waste time in chasing political parties to get a government job. “Had the same youth set up a “paan shop” he/she would have by now had a bank balance of Rs 5 lakh,” he said.

He also urged youth to opt for breeding cows and open ‘paan shops’ if faced with unemployment.

His problem solving skills were also seen at another event, where he suggested that those who have studied mechanical engineering should not prepare for civil services, whereas civil engineers are better suited for civil services as they own the prowess to build society.

Earlier, PM Narendra Modi had rebuked his party motormouths for making controversial statements. PM Modi in his interaction with BJP MPs and MLAs through the NaMo App recently had suggested that party members should not always blame the media for blowing things out of proportion since it was them who provide “masala” to the Press.

“We give masala to the media. The moment we see a cameraperson, we jump to make a statement as if we are great social scientists or intellectuals. Then these ill-informed statements are used by media and the party’s image takes a beating. It is not the media’s fault,” PM Modi had said.
