Haryana Police have registered a case against 15 persons involved in alleged thrashing of five youths belonging to minority community from Faridabad district on Saturday.

Police said two brothers Isaan Mohammad and Shahzad along with Shakeel, Sonu, and Azaad Mohammad — all residents of three villages in Faridabad district — were thrashed by a mob of cow vigilantes on the suspicion of carrying cow meat in an auto-rickshaw on Friday.

On Saturday, police have registered a case under Sections 148, 149, 323, 341, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code at Mujessar police station against 15 persons for thrashing the five youths and a cross-case against the youths under the Haryana Gauvansh and Gausamvardhan Act of 2015 based on complaint by a resident of Sanjay colony.

Earlier, the police had sent the seized meat to a laboratory for test. It has since been established that the seized meat was of buffalo and not cow or its progeny, said a senior police officer.

A video had surfaced on social media, where the attackers can be seen pinning one of the victims on the ground and chanting ‘Jai Hanuman’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’.

No arrests have been made as yet.
