4 of a gang behind 28 lakh Delhi robberies nabbed after encounter

Four desperate members of a notorious gang of robbers involved in robbing a businessman of Rs 28 lakh in the National Capital have been hunted down in an encounter by the team of Special Staff of North Delhi.

During the encounter, a bullet hit on the chest of a cop, but he was minutely saved by his bullet-proof jacket.

The arrested accused persons have been identified as Kamal Yadav, Vijay Tomar, Deen Bandhu, and Somveer. Four semi-automatic pistols, four extra magazines, 111 cartridges, 6 lakhs cash and two country made pistols with cartridges have been recovered from the accused.

According to the police, the gang has been involved in several robbery cases in North, Central and Northeast Delhi. The police conducted a 10 days long search operation across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttrakhand, Punjab and Chandigarh to nab the accused.

Accused committed over 10 incidents of armed robbery targeting businessmen and traders carrying money in the past few months.

During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused Deen Bandhu is a notorious criminal, who murdered his own school’s principal in 1997 for not letting him cheat in the examination.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) North Delhi, Sagar Singh Kalsi said that in a drive to nab the criminals involved in targeting businessmen and traders carrying money, a dedicated team of Special Staff led by Sub-Inspector Rohit and under the supervision of Inspector Ajay Kumar was constituted.

According to the DCP, on December 19, a complainant Jagat Pal stated that he collected Rs 28 Lakhs, including Australian Dollars as payment, from Kucha Ghasi Ram, Chandni Chowk along with another employee of his company Garib Kumar and were heading towards their office.

On reaching Kamla Nehru Park, near MCD Chowk, two bike-borne robbers robbed the money by showing a pistol. When the victim tried to chase them, another motorcycle stopped him and fled the spot after removing his keys.

A case was registered at Civil Lines Police Station and investigation was carried out.

Meanwhile, an information was received wherein it was revealed that the accused who have committed robbery in Civil Lines have also committed several robberies in the past few months.

Subsequently, over 500 dossiers were analysed and on the basis of dossier search, CCTV footage and technical surveillance the accused were identified and raids were conducted in Delhi-NCR and neighbouring states.

On December 27, based on specific information, accused Kamal Yadav was detained and on December 28, accused Vijay Tomar was apprehended.

Further on the instance of accused Vijay Tomar a team of Special Staff intercepted accused Somveer and Deenbandhu near Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, when they were following a businessman to commit robbery.

Upon viewing the police, both the accused wiped out their pistols and opened fire in order to escape from the clutches of police. During the firing one bullet hit on the Bullet Proof Jacket of Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajeev.

In retaliation, the police team fired two rounds before over-powering both the accused.
