2 IS-linked terrorists killed in Shopian

Two IS linked terrorists were on Tuesday killed in an encounter with the security forces in the Awneera area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

A police spokesman said that based on a credible input, a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched jointly by the police and security forces in Awneera.

During the search operation, the hiding terrorists fired at the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.

In the ensuing encounter, 2 terrorists were killed and the bodies were retrieved. Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter.

Meanwhile, the Army spokesman said that the Pakistan troops, on Monday evening, indulged in unprovoked shelling at Indian positions in the Poonch sector killing an Army Lance Naik Mohammad Jawed belonging to the Marrar village of Khagria district in Bihar.

The soldier was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries.

In another incident, the bomb disposal squad on Tuesday morning defused an IED that was planted by terrorists on the Mendhar-Poonch road along the Line of Control (LOC) to target an Army convoy.
