The UP Government has ensured potable water from the river Ganges to 2 lakh households in Varanasi by installing the Polymer Dosing System in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency.
The Polymer Dosing Plant, set up at a cost of about Rs 50 lakh, has made Varanasi the first city in the country, where pure water of the Ganges is being supplied to homes on such a large scale through the natural polymers.
Siddharth Kumar, Secretary, Jal kal Department in Varanasi informed on Friday that the pure water of Ganges has started reaching about 1.5 to 2 lakh houses in Varanasi.
He said that the ‘Ganga Jal’ is being supplied after purifying it in the Bhelupur Jalkal complex.
The people living in the Varuna area, beside the river Varuna, are now getting pure water from the Ganges. The department is preparing to extend the scheme to Trans Varuna as well.
According to the information, the natural polymers are utilised for the purification of water, due to which the PPM becomes close to zero. Due to this, water soluble impurities, organic compounds, bacteria, soil, sand particles etc. almost get completely cleaned.
The biggest feature of polymer dosing is that by its use, the basic properties and healthy minerals of water remain present in the water itself, which is beneficial for health.
The Secretary, Jal Kal Department, said that using modern technology, for the first time in India, water from the river Ganges, is being directly treated with polymer dosing method on such a large scale, due to which the quality of water remains in its original form.
He further said that so far 120 to 125 MLD water is being treated on every passing day. The figure is set to go up to 250 MLD. The Secretary, Jalkal Department informed that water treated through polymer dosing is healthier than RO and mineral water sold in the market, whose TDS level is around 200.
