KPCC president K Sudhakaran MP has, on Wednesday, said that the news circulating in the media that he has sent a letter to Rahul Gandhi expressing his willingness to resign as state Congress chief is baseless.
The contents of the letter now coming out on his behalf is a figment of the media’s imagination, Sudhakaran said in a statement.
For the past many days the media in Kerala has been spreading false news against him, he said. “It is suspected that some media outlets have an ulterior motive behind reporting such news without any verification,” Sudhakaran said.
“I have a sense of organization that if I need to write such a letter, it should be to Congress president Mallikarjuna Kharge. But the media gave the news in such a way that the letter was sent to Rahul Gandhi,” Sudhakaran said and added that from this itself, everyone with common sense will understand the ulterior motive behind it.
“Such news is the brainchild of those who want the downfall of Congress and UDF. The intention behind such news is to create confusion among Congress and UDF workers and take advantage,” he said.
Sudhakaran also said that party workers should be careful not to fall into such a trap.
Referring to his Children’s Day speech on Wednesday, which had kicked up a controversy, Sudhakaran said most of the hour-long speech was devoted to stressing the importance of secularism, the relevance of present-day need for protection of minorities.
“The purpose of the speech was to mobilise workers for the anti-fascist struggle. A controversy was created by glossing over all those messages and distorting the intent of the speech,” Sudhakaran said.
Reports have come out In Malayalam media saying that Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President (KPCC) President K Sudhakaran has sent a letter to Rahul Gandhi offering his resignation as state Congress chief, after his remarks on Jawaharlal Nehru and his statement on RSS, drew flak from various corners including within the party.
K Sudhakaran on Monday said Jawaharlal Nehru was willing to compromise with even communal fascism as he made Shyama Prasad Mukherjee a minister in Independent India’s first cabinet.
Addressing a function organised by the Kannur District Congress Committee (DCC), as part of Children’s Day, Sudhakaran said “Nehru is the symbol of the highest level of democratic consciousness that made B R Ambedkar the law minister. He was magnanimous enough to make RSS leader Shyama Prasad Mukerjee a minister in his own cabinet… that large-heartedness to even compromise with communal fascism. This was proof of his high sense of democracy, Sudhakaran added
Last week, Sudhakaran has stated that he had sent his men to “give protection to RSS shakhas at Edakkad, Thottada, Kizhunna in Kannur from CPI-M attacks when he was part of the Congress (Organisation) and the right-wing outfit also has all right to function here.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala on Wednesday came out in support of Sudhakaran and termed the so-called resignation letter as ‘fake’
“I spoke to Sudhakaran and he denied writing to Rahul Gandhi expressing his desire to step down. He does not want a certificate either from the BJP or the CPM. The issues between Sudhakaran and Muslim League will be discussed and settled within the UDF. Sudhakaran has always been a true secular leader,” said Chennithala.
