A total of 15 candidates have so far filed their nominations for the Presidential Election 2022 since the process began on 15th June.

There were 11 nominations on June 15, three on June 16 and one on Friday, filed by Sanjay Savji Deshpande, a resident of Mumbai’s Amar Nagar.

A copy of his nomination paper was displayed on the Notice Board of the Returning Officer for the election, Mr. P C Mody, who is the Secretary-General of the Rajya Sabha. Deshpande is a registered voter in the 28 Mumbai North-East Lok Sabha constituency.

Sources said most of the nominations so far do not have the required signatures of proposers, and they appear to be non-serious candidates.

The nominations will continue till June 29 and their scrutiny on 30th June is likely to eliminate the non-serious candidates. The nominations will remain open on Saturday tomorrow.

The last date for the withdrawal of candidatures is 2nd July and 18th July is the date on which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken.

By a notification, the Election Commission has appointed P C Mody, Secretary-General, Rajya Sabha, as the Returning officer for the Presidential Election, 2022; and Mukul Pandey, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) and Surendra Kumar Tripathi, Joint Secretary and Chief Vigilance Officer, Rajya Sabha Secretariat, as the Assistant Returning Officers.
