On the occasion of Republic Day on Sunday, a total of 1040 police personnel will be conferred President’s Police Medal for Gallantry award and distinguished service.
In the list of police personnel listed for the honour, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have the maximum names at 108 followed by the Central Reserve Police Force at 76.
Four police personnel, including three from Jammu and Kashmir Police and one from CRPF, will receive the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG), which is the highest police medal for valour.
It is to be noted that both the J-K Police and CRPF are indulged in the counter terror operation in the newly created union territory.
As reported by IANS, Abdul Jabbar (IPS), Gh. Hassan Sheikh (Deputy Superintendent of Police) and Asif Iqbal Qureshi (Constable) from Jammu and Kashmir and Late Constable Utpal Rabha (Posthumous) will receive the highest police gallantry award for their valour during counter terror operations.
For the second-highest honour for valour – Police Medal for Gallantry, for which 286 police personnel are listed, a total of 105 personnel from Jammu and Kashmir Police and 75 from CRPF will receive the medal.
Other states’ police which will be honoured with the Police Medal for Gallantry are Jharkhand Police, who will get 33; Odisha police 13, Delhi Police 12, Maharashtra Police 10, Chhattisgarh eight and Bihar police to get seven.
On Republic Day, a total of 93 police personnel will receive President’s Police Medal in which maximum are from Intelligence Bureau with eight medals.
Police Medal for Meritorious Service will be conferred to 657 personnel in which maximum are from Uttar Pradesh with 72 awards.
