Globally celebrated on 5 June every year, World Environment Day is the United Nations biggest agenda to spread environmental awareness. Environmental issues are growing at an alarming rate. The natural setting that shelters us is not being protected in the way it should be and for that none other than human beings are responsible.
And as a result animals are losing their habitat and are getting extinct. We live in the biosphere which comprises of lithosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere. The components of the biosphere are interdependent on each other and the depletion in one will automatically lead to imbalance. The lithosphere is being affected by the increasing rate of deforestation and also due to the emission of detrimental scientific chemicals.
Hydrosphere, essential for our survival is affected due to global warming and the mishaps such as oil spill. Noticeably, the atmosphere which is the home for all living beings is in jeopardy with the increase in population and scientific experiments. Though blaming science and technology will be wrong but we also cannot deny the fact that a large portion of ecological crisis is the result of it.
Environment plays a significant role in the development of humankind and society. The geographical surroundings not only consist of climate, topography, soil, plants, animals and non living materials but also cosmic forces like gravitational and electrical forces. Though there are several acts for the protection of environment, in India the most well-known is the Environment Protection Act 1986, an Act that was passed in the wake of the Bhopal Tragedy.
So on this World Environment Day let us take part in creating and protecting our environment.
Let us collaborate to create the era of beautiful surroundings in which we can breathe fresh and hygienic air, and drink clean, pollution-free water.
