Netflix has announced the much awaited second season of the acclaimed original series, Sacred Games. After ending the season on a cliffhanger, Netflix made an official announcement on Friday morning about the return of the show with a second season.
A 45-second teaser was shared, which implied the Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s character) track will return even as Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) continues his mission to save Mumbai.
The teaser also shows a mandala spinning round, with voice-overs by characters from Season 1 — Sartaj Singh, RAW agent Anjali Mathur (Radhika Apte) and police officer Parulkar (Neeraj Kabi) — giving a sense of what happened in the past and what is in store. The mandala stops spinning to reveal the new title design of the season.
The teaser is captioned as “The worst is yet to come. Sacred Games will be back for Season 2.” It, however, does not give any date as to when the show will go on air.

Gaitonde, who died in the very first episode of Season 1, also has a voice-over in the teaser as he asks: “Do you believe in God?”
Season 2 of Sacred Games will pick up where it left off.

In Season 1, Ganesh spoke of the two of the three people he called his “fathers”. The “third father”, a spiritual guru of sorts played by Pankaj Tripathi, was introduced but the first season did not delve deep into his character. Season 2 is likely to show Guruji (Pankaj Tripathi) in a pivotal role.
Shooting, scheduled in various Indian and international locations, will begin soon.
This season will also witness some a few new faces along with some from the previous season. Sacred Games, co-directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap, was the first Indian Netflix original series and received a great response from the audience.
In a statement, Netflix Vice-President (International Originals) Erik Barmack said: “We’ve been thrilled by the response to Sacred Games from fans worldwide, and especially in India, to this high-quality production. It’s incredibly exciting for us to take the story of Sacred Games forward and open a new chapter in the series with its second season.”
