The trailer of Knives Out has been released. A a modern take on the whodunit murder mystery, the upcoming film has been written and directed by Rian Johnson of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Looper and Brick.
In the trailer, it it shown that on the 85th birthday of a family’s patriarch– a renowned crime novelist played by Christopher Plummer–things go askew when the octogenarian is found dead.
With a family in a large mansion, James Bond Daniel Craig and Sorry to Bother You fame actor Laeith Stanfield play detectives who try solve the case.
Keeping the guests under house arrest, the trailer exposes the eccentricities of the characters and their relations to each other.Captain America Chris Evans stood out in the trailer for making as-a-matter-of-fact statements and being completely unmoved by the happenings of the house and the effect of the murder.
Knives out is described as a tribute to the Queen of Crime, acclaimed writer, Agatha Christie, and uses music to heighten the mood and affect the tension of the scenes. Frank Sinatra’s “I’m Gonna Live Till I Die”‘s remix track plays in the background as both detectives try to find out the real culprit, all the while interrogating the staff of the house and the family on a sunburst made of knives.
The trailer of the film also states, “whodunnit like no one has ever dunnit.”
The large ensemble cast of the film includes Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, Katherine Langford, Noah Segan, Edi Patterson, Riki Lindhome, Jaeden Martell, and Christopher Plummer alongside Craig and Stanfield.
Earlier, Johnson had confirmed that the film is inspired by Agatha Christie’s murder mysteries and has a ” Hitchcock thriller-type twist”. Audiences will have to see what the film brings to the table on its release.
Knives Out is scheduled to release on 27 November 2019 by Lionsgate productions.
