Actress Swara Bhaskar has become the new favorite of trolls on social media. Ever since the release of Veere Di Wedding, the actress has been bombarded with questions and allegations over her ‘controversial’ scene.

In the film, Swara plays the character of Sakshi who is divorced by her husband after getting caught masturbating. Swara is being slammed for featuring in the scene and called out on social media.

Recently, the 30-year-old actress was asked by a user on Twitter about how masturbating is related to empowerment. The user also said “empowerment does not mean that one should masturbate in public”, calling it a “private” affair.

Swara gives a befitting reply to the user as she posts: “Sakshi was in her ‘private’ bedroom, not public. Masturbation is about owning ur body, sexuality. Empowering. In a culture that largely silences or ignores or shames female sexuality showing a girl gratifying herself in a film in a non-judgemental way is empowering.”

After her co-star Sonam Kapoor backed up the actress, her mother Ira Bhaskar too spoke about the issue. She said, “Let me begin by saying that sexuality per se in Indian cinema is not a subject that has been directly expressed. At the same time, historically, our cinema is unique in the sense that it has developed, over the years, a very complex and refined idiom on eroticism. And that idiom is the song.”

The Shashan Ghosh directorial Veere Di Wedding also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, and Shikha Talsania.
