Filmmaker Aneek Chaudhuri, who had his last film The Wife’s Letter premiered at Festival de Cannes, is back with his music documentary Urban Voice that will have a special screening at the IFFI Goa film festival.
Urban Voice is a film based on the importance of urban folk musician Susmit Bose as a social reformer and musician in India. The film narrates the journey of Bose and his struggles to make folk music relevant in the nation.
Susmit has been making music since the 1960s and has witnessed great changes around the globe during all these years. Although a resident of India, his primary language to compose songs has been English till date. The singer was thoroughly criticised for the same! He did not get his due as a singer and was even termed a Bob Dylan rip off by many critics.
According to the director, folk music doesn’t get its deserved importance in the nation.
“Urban folk music itself is a genre that does not find a well-deserved acceptance in our country as people hardly know its history and what is its definition,” the director says.
Urban Voice, a 75-minute-long documentary, has been listed in the British Council plus. The film also had a special screening at the American Film Market on November 1.
Directed by Aneek Chudhri. Urban Voice is set for release on November 24.
