Sony Pictures forays into Telugu cinema with Mahesh Babu’s Major

Sony Picture International Productions has now forayed into Telugu Cinema with its first film, Major, co-produced by Mahesh Babu.

The movie is based on the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, a National Security Guard commando, who had led the Black Tornado operation to save hostages in the 26/11 Taj Hotel attack in Mumbai.

Unnikrishnan was awarded the Ashok Chakra posthumously on January 26, 2009.

The film will be shot in both Hindi and Telugu.

Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh confirmed the announcement on Twitter.

Major is written by Adivi Shesh, who also starred in and wrote two Telugu hits, Kshanam and Goodachari. He will also play the lead role in the film.

Major is to be directed by Shashikiran Tikka.

Mahesh Babu and Adivi Shesh both shared the film’s news on Twitter.

Sony Pictures had earlier worked with Padman, 102 Not Out and the recent Malayalam film 9.
