With Shubhamoy Chatterjee passing away Tollywood loses a prominent star

Rhythm in the Tollywood industry has paused again with the passing away of actor Shubhamoy Chatterjee who breathed his last at a private hospital on 14th JUne. Shubhamoy, a popular actor, began his career from theatre and moved on to silver screen the small screen.

It is learnt that he was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and was ill for a long time. He was admitted to the ICU of a private hospital near on May 16. Despite the treatment, his condition continued to deteriorate. His battle with the cancer ended in a month.

Director Ayon Chakraborty was the first to announce the news. He wrote in a post on Facebook today, “Shubha da is gone. Shubhamaya Chatterjee. Wherever you are, stay well, brother. On behalf of Kolkata Natyasena and Gurukul, I wish your soul rests in peace.” After that, the stars also started expressing their grief on social media one by one. Actress Rupanjana Mitra writes, “I can’t believe it”. On the other hand, Joyjit Bandyopadhyay wrote, “Goodbye Shubha da. I will not say anything else”.

Whether it is a comic role or a villain, Shubhamoy Chatterjee has acted with power in every character. His performance in the movie ‘Mahalaya’ directed by Soumik Sen touched the hearts of the audience. He played the role of composer and singer Pankaj Kumar Mallick. Besides acting, he was also a singer and a dialogue writer. He had recently won a Filmfare Award for his dialogue in the film ‘Cholai’.

Shubhamoy Chatterjee also flew the victory flag at the Cannes Film Festival 2021. His short film ‘Hare Krishna’ snatched the title of the best. Jeet was in charge of producing the film and was directed by Hindol Chakraborty. Shubhamoy Chatterjee played the main character in that ‘Hare Krishna’ movie. Spreading a humane message in the society, ‘Hare Krishna’ got the crown of the best for its story, screenplay, directing and acting.

The entire Bengali film industry is mourning his death.
