British Pakistani actor and rapper Riz Ahmed will produce and star in the music drama Mughal Mowgli, which he has co-written with director Bassam Tariq.
The drama is about the journey of a British Pakistani rapper who, on the cusp of his first world tour, is struck down by an illness that threatens his big break, reports variety.com
The Emmy Award winning actor will also produce the film under his banner Left Handed Films with Thomas Benski, Michael Peay, and Bennett McGhee’s Pulse Films.
Ahmed won an Emmy for his role in The Night Of and went on to star on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Sisters Brothers and Venom.
As Riz MC, he emerged as a rap battle champion in the London music scene going on to perform and write as a solo artist and with his band, Swet Shop Boys.
Director Bassam Tariq’s film Ghosts of Sugar Land won the non-fiction short film award at Sundance and was acquired by Netflix.
