Despite all the controversies and protests, Ranveer Singh-starrer Padmaavat has emerged out as true winner at the box office by collecting Rs166.50-crore in its opening week.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus has come a long way full of hurdles that mostly came from Rajput group Karni Sena, after the fringe group accused Bhansali of distorting the historical facts in the name of fiction.

But fans, critics and even B-Town celebs who have watched the film have defended the film by saying that there was no such scene in the film that would hurt the sentiments of anyone.

On the release date of the film, Padmaavat opened to strong word of mouth and fared well at the box office. It shattered all records, which proved Bhansali’s win in a long fought controversial battle with the Karni Sena.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film earned Rs.11 crore on February 1 taking the total first week collection of the film to Rs.166.50 crore. Adarsh also mentioned in his tweet that the film lost an approx figure of Rs 50 crore because of the film not being released in some states and all the chaos that erupted prior to the release of the film.

Nevertheless, Padmaavat has ended its first week collection on stupendous note and with no major films lined to release for another week, the period drama will inch closer to the Rs 200-crore club eventually.

Going by the records, Padmaavat is unstoppable across the globe as the film is having a phenomenal run in countries like Australia, North America (where it stands as the biggest opener at the box office) and Singapore.

Padmaavat featuring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles is the first Hindi film that was released worldwide on January 25 in IMAX 3D.
