Renowned actor Nana Patekar recently graced the city of Mangaluru with his presence to inaugurate the six-day ‘Rangotsav’, highlighting the pivotal role of theatre in addressing societal issues. Alongside him was actor and director Prakash Raj, adding to the event’s allure.

During the ‘Rangotsav’ event, Patekar shared his belief in theatre as a powerful medium for expressing dissent and raising awareness. He emphasized that while speaking out on the streets might lead to arrest, the stage offers a platform where such expressions are not only accepted but applauded. Patekar urged artists to use the stage responsibly to educate and inspire change.

The students organizing the event pulled out all the stops, presenting a diverse range of cultural performances that delighted both guests and the audience.

On a different note, Patekar also spoke about his recent projects, including his role in the Marathi comedy-drama film ‘Ole Aale’, directed by Vipul Mehta, where he portrayed Former ICMR Director General Dr. Balram Bhargava. The film, titled ‘The Vaccine War’, sheds light on the challenges faced during the creation of the Covaxin vaccine, particularly during the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic. Directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, the film hit the screens in September 2023.

Patekar’s visit and insightful remarks underscored the profound impact of theatre in fostering dialogue and driving social change. As he continues to inspire both on and off the stage, his contributions to the world of performing arts remain deeply resonant and relevant.
