In order to promote cultural contacts between India and Thailand, the Thai Embassy in India organised the third edition of film festival ~’Namaste Thailand’. The filming extravaganza was inaugurated last week at a mall in the capital with the screening of the modern Thai romantic comedy Friend Zone.
The inaugural ceremony saw the presence of several dignitaries, including UNG Sean, Ambassador of Cambodia, Sidharto R Suryodipuro, Ambassador of Indonesia and Ariel Andrade Galindo, Ambassador of EL Salvador. Following the welcome address by Thai Ambassdor Chutintorn Gongsakdi, the three-day festival got off to a start with the screening of “Friend Zone”, a Thai romantic comedy depicting a grey zone where relationships are trapped between being friends and lovers.
“It is the third edition of the Namaste Thailand Film Festival that has been organised annually since 2017 to bridge the gap between Indian and Thai cultures by bringing a taste of Thai films to the Indian audience. The festival features a total of six specially curated movies which displayed the culture and tradition of Thailand in different ways,” the Thai envoy said on the occasion.
He added, “Films are no doubt a reflection of a society, as films reflect how people think and the way they tell stories. The films have 6 different stories told in different ways, but they all reflect Thai culture and society. Whatever your movie preferences are, we have them all here.”
The audience was also treated with a special dish (Thai Green Curry) during the screening. Namaste Thailand Film Festival souvenirs were presented to the people who came to see the films and participate in the Facebook activity. The Thai envoy also awarded the winners of the online quiz Namaste Thailand Online Quiz 2019. The quiz had about 1,400 questions about Thailand covering various aspects right from cuisine, culture, way of life and history to geography.
