Malayalam film superstar Mammootty is a name revered in the Indian cinema spectrum across all industries. In a career spanning four decades, he has appeared in over 400 films predominantly in Malayalam language and also in Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
In an interview to BOI, the superstar said that he is still struggling to be good at his job. He said he could not judge himself as an actor elaborating further, “I do not think that I will ever be able to do that. And I think it is because I am still struggling to be good at my job. I am not happy with what I am doing. I think that I can try harder and better myself.”
The actor is currently busy working on Mamangam, one of the most expensive films ever made.
Mamangam is a period film that has been in news ever since it was announced. Being directed by M Padmakumar, the film also stars Prachi Tehlan and is based on the historical Mamankam festival of the 18th century.
The festival, a medieval custom, was celebrated on the banks of the Bharathappuzha, where warriors known as Chaaverukal plot against the Zamorin rulers to overthrow them.
The film has been compared to SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali, which is also a period fantasy film. However, Mammootty has time and again clarified that their film is not like Baahubali.
Earlier in an interview, he had said, “Baahubali scale we cannot touch…but visually we are trying. Because we have erected a big set. It has to be one of a kind in South. Also, we don’t depend more on VFX. Maybe 10-15 percent of the film but not more than that. It’s original set erected, no painting, no green mat, no blue mat. It’s all real and that will bring more reality to the story and make it look more realistic.”
Actors like Kaniha, Unni Mukundan and Anu Sithara are also part of the film.
The film’s cinematography is being done by Manoj Pillai while Shankar Ramakrishnan has done the screenplay and dialogues.
The action sequences of the film have been choreographed by stunt-director Sham Kaushal, Vicky Kaushal’s father.
Mamangam is a multilingual film slated to release sometime in December this year. The official release date has not been confirmed and announced yet.
