Kevin Smith announced on Sunday at Power-Con, Los Angeles, that he has partnered with Netflix and Mattel TV to bring the He-Man animated series on the streaming giant.
The new series, titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation will be based in the Mattel’s 80s era toy inspired world and focus on the unresolved storylines of the classic show, picking up characters’ journeys where they left off years ago.
“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” Smith said. “In ‘Revelation,’ we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!” quoted variety.com.
Kevin Smith will serve as the executive producer and show-runner of Masters of the Universe: Revelation.
The series will be produced by Mattel Television alongside Rob David, the vice-president of Mattel TV and author of He-Man: the Eternity War.
Eric Carrasco of Supergirl fame, Tim Sheridan of Reign of the Supermen, Diya Mishra from Magic the Gathering and Marc Bernardin from Alphas will write the script while animation will be handled by Powerhouse Animation.
Netflix’s other anime content includes Castlevania, Devilman Crybaby, Aggretsuko and Ultraman.
