Selena Gomez and David Henrie are set to reunite for a sequel to the beloved comedy ‘Wizards of Waverly Place,’ as reported by People.

The duo, who played siblings in the original Disney Channel series, will be returning for the sequel, with Gomez reprising her role as Alex Russo in a guest star appearance in the pilot. Henrie, on the other hand, will take on the role of Justin Russo as a series regular.

The sequel will explore the aftermath of a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin Russo has relinquished his wizard powers for a normal, human life with his wife and two sons. However, his world takes an unexpected turn when a powerful young wizard in need of training shows up at his doorstep, compelling Justin to embrace his past for the sake of the Wizard World’s future, according to an official synopsis.

Janice LeAnn Brown will portray Billie, the powerful young wizard seeking instruction, while Alkaio Thiele and Mimi Gianopulos will play Justin’s oldest son, Roman, and his wife Giada, respectively.

The Disney Channel teased the news on Instagram, sharing a snapshot of the pilot script featuring the iconic wand from the series, captioned, “Waverly Place.”

Henrie, responding in the comments, wrote, “Get ready for the Russo’s to become a part of your family once again, but we’ve grown! 2024, the year comes back ;)”

Gomez expressed her excitement on social media, reposting the Deadline story and sharing a throwback photo with Henrie from the ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ set, stating, “We’re back.”

Both Gomez and Henrie will also serve as executive producers for the series, which has already received a pilot order from Disney Branded Television, according to Deadline.

David Deluise, who played the onscreen father of Henrie and Gomez, commented on Henrie’s post, sparking concern among fans about his involvement in the project. Henrie reassured fans by stating, “We definitely plan on bringing back the original cast for the series order.”

Selena and David, along with Jake T. Austin, originally starred as three wizard siblings in ‘Wizards of Waverly Place,’ a Disney Channel show that premiered in 2007 and lasted four seasons. The success of the series led to the creation of ‘Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie’ in 2009 and the standalone special ‘The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex’ in 2013, as reported by People. (ANI)
