Aneek Chaudhuri, the filmmaker who first made headlines with his silent film “White”, is back with another silent film, Cactus. As a movie, Cactus focuses on the story of Jesus Christ and Mother Mary.
But there is a twist, as the role of Jesus Christ is being portrayed by a woman (Aparajita Dey). Cactus will be premiered at the Reaktor India film festival to be held in Vienna this month.
Chaudhuri’s works have always been about women and he thinks of them as “interesting creatures.” His films always feature women in a pivotal role.
Speaking earlier to Thestatesman.com, Chaudhuri explained that the sensitivity that was shown by Christ could only be shown by a woman.
The film deals with a controversial topic—the role of Jesus Christ is being played by a woman. The role was earlier being played by Actor Amrita Chattopadhyay. She was later replaced by Aparajita Dey.
The international trailer for the film was released recently and will be screened in Reaktor India film festival of Vienna in the March end. The film is 87 minutes long and an uncut version of the film will be shown in the Reaktor India film festival. It is the same place where Chaudhuri’s earlier film, “White” premiered.
