The two Bollywood films which were released this Friday–URI and The Accidental Prime Minister— are in a stiff competition with each other. While both the films started off with decent reviews from the critics, the Vicky Kaushal starrer has surged ahead in the race at the Box Office.
URI, based on the 2016 surgical strikes across the PoK (Pakistan occupied Kashmir), has a “pretty good opening day” according to the reports of Box Office India. The Aditya Dhar directed action film has minted Rs 8.20 crore on the first day of its release.

Film critic and trade analyst, Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the collection on the film. “#2019 begins with a bang… #UriTheSurgicalStrike embarks on a flying start… Should witness growth on Day 2 and Day 3… Fri ₹ 8.20 cr. India biz. #Ur,” he wrote.

The lead actor of URI, Vicky Kaushal, has been heaped with praises by the audience and a few celebrities from the Hindi film industry for his performance. The weekend will be a crucial time for the film and the opening day sales indicate a good collection.
Meanwhile, the Anupam Kher starrer got a decent kick start and collected Rs 4.50 crore on its first day in the theatres. The biopic, based on the life of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, has meandered through a lot of controversies to finally reach the big screen.

The Accidental Prime Minister, directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, was released on January 11. The biopic is based on a book with the same title written by Sanjaya Baru who was the media advisor to Manmohan Singh when he was the Prime Minister. Actor Anupam Kher portrays the role of Singh while Akshaye Khanna stars as Baru.
URI and The Accidental Prime Minister hit the screens on 11 January 2019.
