Gadar 2: 135Cr First Weekend Box Office Collection

Gadar 2

On Sunday, August 13, ‘Gadar 2’ boasted an impressive overall occupancy rate of 85.29 percent.

Continuing its impressive run at the box office, Gadar 2, maintained its unwavering momentum on its third day. The directorial prowess of Anil Sharma shone brightly on Sunday, as the movie garnered a staggering Rs 52 crore in collections, as per industry tracker Sacnilk’s report. This achievement marks Gadar 2’s highest single-day earnings, surpassing its already remarkable start of Rs 40 crore, followed by Saturday’s collection of Rs 43 crore.

With the substantial surge in collections on Sunday, Gadar 2’s cumulative weekend earnings weekend have now reached Rs 135 crore. According to industry experts, the film’s strategy is now towards sustaining steady collections on Monday. A renewed push followed on Tuesday, which coincides with Independence Day. This strategic move aims to propel Gadar 2 beyond the Rs 200 crore mark with considerable ease.

Despite facing competition from Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 and consequently having fewer screens, especially in multiplexes, Gadar 2 has achieved remarkable commercial success. This achievement is even more notable, for the clash with another major release. Notably, Gadar 2 now stands as the pinnacle of Sunny Deol’s illustrious 40-year career. The veteran actor, who embarked on his cinematic journey with Betaab (1983), saw Gadar (2001) previously reigning as his highest-grossing blockbuster.

Sunny Deol mentioned “I am indeed very happy. When we did the second part of Gadar, we never knew it would be so loved by the audience. Two whole generations have gone by since we did the first Gadar. And still, people are as excited as they were the first time. I am very, very happy. We need some hits to keep the film industry on its feet.”

In response to the demand for Gadar 2, numerous exhibitors incorporated additional screenings into their schedule. This included late-night and early-morning showings. This surge in popularity prompted exhibitors to adapt their screening times to accommodate the fervent audience.

“The film is facing capacity issues as it had to share screens with OMG 2. Moviegoers, meanwhile, are not ready to wait till weekdays or next week to watch Gadar 2. They want to watch the film immediately and hence, expect many more cinemas to increase shows and thus create history.”

A continuation of the storyline from ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, a film released in 2001, ‘Gadar 2’ maintains its connection to the backdrop of the Partition of India in 1947. The movie is said to draw loose inspiration from the life of Boota Singh, a former British army soldier. His poignant love saga with Zainab, a Muslim girl he rescued during the tumultuous communal clashes of the partition era, serves as a central theme. Notably, the original film featured prominent actors like Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel in leading roles, with Amrish Puri and Lillete Dubey also contributing to the ensemble cast. The direction was helmed by Anil Sharma.
