“My Big Fat Greek Wedding” fame actress Lainie Kazan was arrested for trying to steal food from a grocery store here.
The 77-year-old was arrested on Sunday for loading her cart with $180 worth of groceries, reports tmz.com.
Kazan, who played the role of mother Maria Portokalos in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, stuffed the food into several reusable bags and attempted to make a run for her car. But an employee from the grocery chain approached her and alerted police.
The actress claimed that she didn’t have any money on her which was why she didn’t pay for the groceries.
Kazan was later arrested for petty theft, handcuffed and taken to a police station where she was cited and released without bail.
