As the 80th edition of the Golden Globes Awards is scheduled to be broadcast on Tuesday, January 10, there is a reason for Indians to watch the proceedings of the award ceremony. RRR, an Indian entry, got two nominations for the prestigious awards.
As the award ceremony is all set to take off, last year’s low-key event crop up in one’s mind. In 2022, the awards were boycotted by media houses, actors, and creatives in protest against the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which was denounced for the purported lack of diversity in nominations. The winners had to be announced through a press release while the award distribution event was held in private.
This time around, the prestigious awards function is special for Indians as SS Rajamouli’s RRR has been nominated in two categories at the Golden Globes. The film has gained two nominations, one for Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu, and the other for Best Picture — Non-English language. The Golden Globes being pioneers of Academy Awards and these nominations are of crucial importance for RRR.
The award ceremony of the Golden Globes will be held at 8 pm on January 10 ET (January 11, 5:30 am IST). The red carpet appearances will begin by 5:30 am while the actual ceremony will commence by 6:30 am.
The awards will be broadcast live from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, on NBC and Peacock in the US. It can be streamed on Lionsgate Play in India.
Comedian and actor Jerrod Carmichael will host the ceremony, and Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Tracy Morgan will assume the role of presenters for the ceremony. The Awards are organised by Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).
