83, the Ranveer Singh starrer Kapil Dev biopic, gets a release date

Ranveer Singh, the energetic Bollywood actor, is all set to play legendary cricket player Kapil Dev in the latter’s biopic based on the iconic win of India at the 1983 World Cup. Kapil Dev was the captain of the winning Indian team.

Initially, the film was to be released in August 2019 but the makers have now come up with a new release date of the film.

The official handle of the film declared the release date on Thursday (July 5). The post read: “Relive the historic glory when 15 minions from India ruled over the mammoths of world cricket. Film releases on April 10, 2020.”

The film follows how under the captaincy of Kapil Dev, the Indian cricket team defeated West Indies in the final of the 1983 World Cup. It tracks the coming of age of not just a cricketing team, but of a young nation in the eyes of the world.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his social media handle and revealed that it’s going to a big clash of Bollywood vs Hollywood as Vin Diesel’s Fast And Furious 9 is expected to release in 2020. His post reads as “It’s Ranveer Singh versus Vin Diesel. The makers of ’83, starring Ranveer and directed by Kabir Khan, have just announced the release date [10 April 2020]… Well, Vin Diesel’s Fast And Furious 9 is also releasing on 10 April 2020 in India. Interesting clash.”

The film is helmed by Kabir Khan, and this will also mark as Ranveer Singh’s first film with ace director Kabir Khan. Currently, Ranveer is shooting in Hyderabad for Rohit Shetty’s Simmba which is scheduled to hit the screens on December 28, 2018.
