Pragya Singh Thakur, the BJP candidate from Bhopal, has been served a notice, and asked to reply, by the Bhopal District Election Officer, over the complaint of her campaigning during the 3-day period when she was barred by the Election Commission from campaigning, reports ANI.

The Election Commission had, on Wednesday, May 1 prohibited Thakur from campaigning for three days starting 6 am Thursday over her remark that she is proud of Babri Masjid’s demolition, which was found violative of the Model Code of Conduct.

In April, Thakur, while addressing the media, had said that she took part in the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, adding that she will also help in the construction of a Ram temple.

“Yes, I had gone there (Ayodhya). I had said it yesterday too, and am not denying it. I had demolished the structure. I will go there and help in the construction of Ram temple. Nobody can stop us from doing that. Ram rashtra hain, rashtra Ram hain (Ram is the nation, the nation is Ram),” she had said, adding, “God had given strength to remove a scar on the face of the country.”

Following her remarks, the District Election Officer (DEO) in Bhopal served her a notice, seeking an explanation within a day while mentioning the statement in the notice.

The DEO said that Pragya’s statement was in violation of chapter 4 of the model code of conduct which states: No activity, which may aggravate existing differences or create mutual hatred or cause tension between different caste/communities/religious/linguistic groups, shall be attempted.
