Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday, asked Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati that why she did not withdraw support to the Rajasthan government following the reports of a Dalit woman being gang-raped in the state’s Alwar district.

Rajasthan has a Congress government led by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Prime Minister Modi was addressing an election rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar.

He said, “Behenji, whatever happened with you at the guest house had disturbed the women of the country. If you really care about the daughters of India then you should take away your support to the Rajasthan government without any delay after a Dalit daughter was gang-raped in the state. You are shedding crocodile tears and only issuing statements.

“Had the intentions of the Congress been right, they would have never tried to hide the case. But they have only one answer, It happened, so what?”

The alleged gang rape took place on April 26 when a Dalit couple, riding on a motorcycle on Thanagaji-Alwar road, was waylaid by the accused who came on two bikes. They beat the husband, stripped the couple and raped the woman in front of her husband. One of accused also shot a video.

The husband of the rape survivor claimed that he had approached the Thanagazi police station SHO and the SP with his complaint on April 30, but was asked to wait as they were busy with the elections. He alleged that an FIR was lodged only on May 7.
