Yogi Adityanath calls for strict action against culprits in Ghaziabad hooch tragedy
Expressing grief over the three deaths following alleged consumption of spurious liquor in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed authorities to take strict action against the guilty.
Reacting to the reports of the incident that took place in Khora area, Adityanath also told district administration and police to immediately reach the spot and arrange for the treatment of those affected.
A probe has been ordered into the incident.
According to reports, three died due to illicit liquor and two are undergoing treatment. The UP Police have reportedly seized bottles of the illicit liquor which was consumed by the victims as well as other bottles of the same name.
In September 2017, the Yogi government had passed a bill providing death penalty and life imprisonment for those dealing in illicit liquor.
A new section was added to the Excise Act to implement the move which also has provisions for life imprisonment or a fine of Rs 10 lakh or both for culprits guilty of manufacturing hooch causing death or permanent disability a person.
