Chances of thunderstorm or dust storm hitting New Delhi from Saturday onwards are high with western disturbance and a cyclonic circulation over northeast Afghanistan.
According to India Meteorological Department’s (IMD), there are chances of light rain in the national capital.
The sky is likely to remain partly cloudy between Saturday and Tuesday.
The Weather Channel reports that the westerly winds from the Arabian Sea coupled with the western disturbance in northeast Afghanistan and north Pakistan will result in the drop in the mercury in parts of northwest India from Friday.
There is chance of snowfall in parts of north India beside scattered rain and thunderstorms.
A fresh western disturbance might affect northern India by Monday evening, reports Weather Channel.
New Delhi has been witnessing extremely high temperatures for the last few days with the mercury going past the 40 degree Celsius mark.
But while the temperature might drop, there will hardly be a respite for people in Delhi from bad air quality. Dust storms over the capital might further deteriorate the air quality.
Thunderstorms can however result in the improvement of air quality.
The weather in Delhi took a turn for the better on 2 May when clouds covered most parts of north India.
The change in weather came a day after a sudden bout of fresh snowfall in parts of Himachal Pradesh and weather disturbances in the eastern coast of the country.
At that time, Cyclone Fani was about a day away from hitting Odisha.
Thunderstorm had also hit Uttarakhand, Gangetic West Bengal, parts of Jharkhand, Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
