Ahead of the polling in Vellore Lok Sabha constituency on August 5, a case was filed against DMK president MK Stalin and his party’s candidate from Vellore, DM Kathir for holding a meet without prior permission on Friday.

As the Model Code of Conduct is in force in the poll-bound district, any meeting without necessary permission would call for action.

The Lok Sabha election was postponed for the Vellore constituency by the Election Commission and is scheduled to be held on August 5 while the counting of votes will take place on August 9.

On Thursday, Stalin whose party won 23 Lok Sabha seats in the 2019 General Election, met leaders of the Muslim community at a marriage hall in Ambur without informing or taking prior permission from the electoral officers.

Post the meeting, the marriage hall was sealed off by the officials where the meeting between Muslim community members and MK Stalin took place.

Earlier, voting in the Vellore constituency was cancelled by the President Ram Nath Kovind on April 16 on the recommendation of the Election Commission.

The polling was called-off in Vellore after a large amount of unaccounted cash was allegedly seized from a warehouse which belonged to the DMK candidate in the state.
