BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said that chief minister Mamata Banerjee is shedding crocodile tear for razing Lenin statue in Tripura, and questioned what the TMC government was doing when the BJP workers were being regularly attacked in the state.

He was addressing a gathering following a law violation programme to protest against the worsening law and order situation in the state, near Ganesh Chandra Avenue. On, Wednesday between 2 pm and 3.30 pm the members and supporters of the state BJP organised the law violation programme to protest against torture on women.“Even women were not safe in the city although we have a woman chief minister,” he alleged.

“We are really astonished to see how the TMC is shedding crocodile tears for the Lenin statue. What was the CPI(M) doing when Lenin’s statue was pulled down in Russia after the dissolution of Soviet Union, he said adding that it only shows how the TMC, the CPI(M) and the Congress have joined hands against the BJP. “As lotus symbol exists so Lenin statues are being protected in India. When it (Lotus symbol) will not exist anarchy will prevail in the country,” said Mr Ghosh.

“We don’t support the breaking of statues. But what happened in Tripura was an outburst of people’s anger against the torture and misrule of the CPI(M)”, he said.

“If the CPI(M) did not mend its ways many such things will happen”, Mr Ghosh said. He said the chief minister is worried with Left being ousted from Tripura and BJP getting victory everywhere. She fears her reign will fall soon. “The fall of TMC will be secured from panchayat poll in 2019. Now our slogan is Ebar Bangla Parle Samla (Now we will target West Bengal ,if you can stop us),” he said.

BJP leader Mukul Roy said that thieves are running government in the West Bengaland alleged that West Bengal is at the top in incidents of atrocities against women.

“Several vital projects are being sanctioned by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Central government but our chief minister changing the name of those projects and posing those are being run by the state,” he said.

The BJP supporters initially assembled in the vicinity of their party office on Murlidhar Sen Lane in Jorasanko. From there, they went in a procession to Ganesh Chandra Avenue near a showroom in Bowbazar. It was here that they were intercepted in front of the police cordon.

According to a senior police officer, “ A futile attempt was made by the BJP supporters to break the police cordon violating the party order and paying no heed to the repeated warnings.

However, the participants unanimously courted arrest and later all were released on police prayer by the Magistrate who was on the spot. During the programme, few BJP supporters tried to hold snap demonstrations near Lalbazar entry gate.

In all 29 supporters were arrested and taken to the Lalbazar central lock up. They were released on personal recognition bonds.
