Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tweet expressing condolence for the children who have died in an explosion in Kabul on Sturday evoked sharp reactions in the city.

Accusing the Prime Minister of indifference towards tragic situations nearer home, state parliamentary affairs minister, Partha Chatterjee said it is surprising that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not have a word of condemnation for those who stoned a school bus making the children cower in the vehicle’s floor after the release of the film Padmaavat.

We too sympathise at the death of children in Kabul, but we do not overlook the spate of incidents of violence which have broken out in the BJP-ruled states after the release of the film, Mr Chatterjee said.

The Prime minister should have condemend these incidents which seek to gag the freedom of speech by letting loose a culture police, he added.
