Thapa lauds Gov GTA praise

Vice-chairman of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Board of Administrators, Anit Thapa

The vice-chairman of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Board of Administrators, Anit Thapa, on Wednesday welcomed the statement of West Bengal governor Keshari Nath Tripathi on the GTA having brought about peace in the Hills.

He also criticized Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) president Mann Ghisingh’s recent statement where he had asked the state government to dissolve the GTA board. “We are grateful to the West Bengal governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, who, during the Rajya Sabha Budget Session, appreciated the work of the GTA board.

The governor has talked about the GTA board having been able to bring back peace and order in the Darjeeling Hills in about five months. A person who is in such an honorable and constitutional post of the governor has praised the GTA board, which proves that the statement of the GNLF leader, Mann Ghisingh, is baseless and only a political act,” said Mr Thapa in a press release.

“If the governor was praising the GTA board’s work, who is Mr Ghisingh to say otherwise?” he added. “In his speech, the governor also said that some bodies were trying to bring in chaos and disturb the peace,” said Mr Thapa in the release.

The statement further maintained that for the past five months, the GTA board has been working to bring peace, good governance and social, economic, educational and politicaldevelopment for the people. “The way the governor has praised us has encouraged us to work further, which we will do proudly by keeping the heads of the Gorkhas high,” Mr Thapa said.
