Temperature rise even as icy winds make Delhi shiver

Delhi witnessed partly clear sky on Tuesday while ice-cold winds towards the evening made people shiver as mercury took a dip.

The wind speed in the evening was recorded at 5.6 km/hr, according to the Indian Institute of tropical Meteorology (IITM).

The day began with moderate fog at some places for the national capital, limiting visibility to 200 meters.

According to an IMD official, the visibility at Palam was 200 meters from 6.30 to 8.30 am.

The minimum temperature in the city pegged at 6.9 degrees Celsius, which was a notch below season’s average, according to the weather agency.

Gradually, the sun started shining on the city. However, the maximum temperature settled at 19.5 degrees Celsius, a point less than the average for the season, while the relative humidity was pegged between 70- 97 per cent through the day.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature will now begin to increase a little and fog also shall reduce.

However, for Wednesday, the IMD has forecast moderate to dense fog in the morning hours, while the minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to hover around 7 to 19 degrees Celsius respectively.

As for the city’s air quality, the average Air Quality Index (AQI) on Tuesday remained in the very poor zone with the pollution figure settling at 368, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

As per the air monitoring agency IITM, ‘The air quality is likely to be in Very Poor category from 24.01.2024 to 26.01.2024. The outlook for subsequent 6 Days: The air quality is likely to remain in the Very Poor category.
