Palvai Govardhan Reddy, a Member of Parliament from Telangana and senior Congress leader on Friday died of heart attack in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh.
Reddy had came to Kullu along with a Parliamentary Standing Committee delegation of 12 MPs to attend a meeting. Police officials said the parliamentary delegation along with their families had reached Bhunter Airport, around 10 km from Kullu by a plane in the morning from New Delhi.
Reddy suffered a severe heart attack after arriving at Bhuntar airport at around 8 a.m.after which he was rushed to Regional Hospital Kullu where he died.
His body would be flown back to Telangana in the evening on Friday. Born on 20 November 1935, Reddy was close to Nehru-Gandhi family and he was first elected as MLA from Munugodu constituency in Nalgonda district in 1967.
He was elected to the legislative assembly of Andhra Pradesh five times before Telangana was formed and he had also served as cabinet minister in the cabinets of Bhavanam Venkatram and Vijayabhaskar Reddy. He was representing Telangana in the Rajya Sabha since 2012.
