A special lecture on “Becoming an efficient teacher” was organised by the Department of Education, Central University of Orissa, Koraput at its main campus Sunabeda today. Vice-chancellor Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, Dr Ramendra Kumar Parhi, head of the Department of Education of the university, and Prof. Bana Bihari Mishra, professor of education, Department of Education of Mizoram University, addressed the seminar.
Prof. Mohanty advised the students to become efficient teachers and actively participate and contribute in nation building. Prof. Mishra pointed out the importance of the teaching profession. He said, a teacher should have mastery over certain skills and competency to become effective and do justice to his profession.
“With the new initiatives, a teacher’s role has changed from creating content, coming to class and delivering the content to mentoring and facilitating learning,” he said. Dr Parhi highlighted various activities of the Department of Education, its extension activities like community study, internship activities for trainee teachers and other community related activities.
