The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) on Friday accused the Narendra Modi government of not implementing the Supreme Court (SC) order for ensuring completion of contentious Satluj Yamuna Link (SYL) canal.

Carrying on its ‘Jail Bharo’ agitation along with the alliance partner Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Sirsa on Friday, leader of the Opposition in Haryana Assembly, Abhay Singh Chautala said the Modi government had shown scant respect for the SC by not only failing to follow its directions regarding the completion of the SYL canal but for also trying to divert the issue by injecting extraneous issues about the flow of the waters of Ravi.

However, the workers of INLD and BSP would not allow these diversionary tactics to work and would continue their struggle to secure justice for the farmers and people of Haryana, he added.

The INLD claimed fifteen busloads of INLD-BSP protesters were taken in custody in Sirsa when they were demanding early completion of the SYL.

Before courting arrest, Chautala said both the Centre and the State had demonstrated utter contempt for the highest court in the country.

He also criticised the Khattar government for failing to secure water from Uttar Pradesh for the Mewat farmers from Agra canal when needed most.

However, the INLD-BSP alliance will ensure that these injustices end as soon as possible.

The leader of the Opposition was criticised the state government’s handling of the law order situation with Dalits, women and children increasingly becoming victims of heinous crimes.
