State to use fly ash for 60km Jamhjadi road project

Odisha government has decided to use fly ash in construction of 60 kms of road from Jamhjadi-Dhamara via Basudevpur. Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi has directed the concerned officers in this regard.

Mr Padhi and Works Secretary Mr Nalini Kanta Pradhan discussed the issues relating to the quantum of ash that could be used in construction of the road and their availability. Considering the requirement of the road, Padhi directed the major coal using industrial houses to supply the fly generated in their industries for constriction of the road.

The industries would do it as compliance to the environmental norms. It would help the industries in utilisation of the fly ash and would also be beneficial for the environment. Discussion in the meeting revealed that around 8 lakh cubic meter of fly ash could be utilised in construction of the road. The senior officers and representatives of the industries like NALCO, NTPC, JSPL, Bhusan VISA agreed to supply the fly ash.

All these industries together would supply around 4.28 lakh cubic meter of ash in a year. Instructions were given to ensure smooth transportation of the fly ash from the factories to the work site. It was decided that the industries would make arrangements for delivery of the fly ash at the worksite and concerned government departments would do necessary facilitation.

The Director State Pollution Control Board, Mr Debidatta Biswal along with senior officers, engineers and representatives of the industrial houses participated in the discussions held on Wednesday.
