As the mushroom spawn grown in Himachal Pradesh is most sought after commodity in the state as well in neighbouring states, Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF) provided training to farmers for setting up new enterprises for its production.

Fifteen mushroom growers and spawn producers from Solan and Bilaspur participated in the programme under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH).

The Project co-ordinator Dr Dharmesh Gupta said the spawn made by the university is well sought after in the market.

“Besides Himachal, the spawn is sent to neighbouring states of Punjab, Haryana, UP, J-K, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Delhi,” he said.

He said the objective of the training is to provide practical training to the participants and aware them about the utility of good quality spawn in mushroom production and the setting up new enterprises were taken up during the event.

There is immense potential for spawning an industry in HP and the spawn of button mushroom and dhingri is always in high demand in the market, especially in the winter months when it is difficult to meet the demand, he said.
