Balurghat police on Monday brought one Ludhgi Hembram, a 70-year-old woman, back home from where she had been banished by her two sons.
According to local people, the helpless woman had taken shelter on the road beside her home at the Danga Forest area under the Balurghat police station.
Her neighbours had been taking care of her for the past three days. The Balurghat police rescued the woman and took her back to her home.
“Katim Soren and Ganesh Soren, the two sons of Mrs Hembram, had thrown their mother our of her house last Friday. We had requested them to take their mother back, but they did not pay any heed to us. Some of us later informed the police. The Balurghat police had a talk with the sons on Monday and they managed to send the woman back home,” a local said.
“My two sons have tactfully captured my land and now they are refusing to take my responsibility. I want shelter and two square meals a day, and nothing else. My sons are not even ready to fulfill my basic needs,” Mrs Hembram said.
The Inspector-in-charge of the Balurghat police station, Sanjoy Ghosh, said, “Though we have not received any complaint from anybody, the villagers informed me about the incident. I instructed my officers to take necessary steps.”
