Dedication is a trait that is rare but is the driver of anybody’s success story. No objective can be achieved without it. It is therefore not a surprise that the trait is inculcated in the spirits of the men and women in uniform – be it the armed forces or police forces.
An example of this dedication was witnessed on 4 June in Mumbai when heavy rains lashed the Maximum City.
As people ran helter-skelter to find a shelter from the rain, a Mumbai cop stood in the pounding downpour to ensure that traffic, which was moving at a snail’s pace, flows smoothly. The policeman was not wearing a raincoat or an umbrella to protect himself from getting drenched in the rain. Yet he stood at an intersection on Akurli Road in Kandivali East manning the traffic.
The policeman’s dedication was captured by Satyam Yadav, a regular Mumbaikar who was out on that rain-soaked evening. Yadav captured a video of the cop doing his job in the middle of the road without a bother for the rain as everyone around him was trying in a rush to escape the downpour.
Soon, the video went viral and the cop. According to reports, the policeman has been identified as 47-year-old Nandkumar Ingle, who is posted as a traffic constable with Dahisar traffic division.
With the force for the last 23 years, Ingle has been hailed as a hero by social media users.

Among those who praised the cop was Mahindra Group chairperson Anand Mahindra.
We need to expand our definition of heroes. Heroic acts should not just be those grand ones which justify monuments & statues, but everyday acts of duty & concern for fellow citizens. The more such everyday heroes we have, the better our quality of life will be.. https://t.co/xsyPMV3t4o

The constable managed traffic till late at night even after the downpour had fizzled out. Mid-Day reported that the cop had no idea that he was being filmed but said that rains do not affect him since he is from a farmer’s family. Assistant Police Commissioner (North) Shakuntala Mistry felicitated the constable for his devotion to duty.
